Grass is one of the most unremarkable things in the world. It exists nearly everywhere and is taken for granted nearly everywhere. Here, it has gone to seed. A shallow depth of field leaves some of it visible while the rest begins to dissolve into blur.

This is an image about being unremarkable. About blending in. About conformity. About the individual disappearing into the whole—through assimilation, loss of individuality, or simply stepping out of view. It could be a positive or a negative and I don’t decide which it is.

It’s also one of my more autobiographical images. How so?

Well. I wouldn’t be a photographic artist who relies on withholding and on things not being there if I put everything out there, would I?
