Nothing is a favourite subject of mine. And this is a good example of my photographing nothing.

Several towns claim to have the whitest sand in the world. This photo was taken at one of them. But this particular town happened to offer more than just white sand. There was a stretch of beach that was completely empty until you reached a few buildings at the far end. In short, there was a great deal of nothing to see before you got there. And that’s exactly the sort of thing that I like.

Taking this photo required repeated efforts to blur the water, sand, and waves away so that they would be only vaguely represented as indistinct forms. Yet you can see buildings just past the water. Those buildings are the only things that remain in the midst of a great deal of nothing.
