Flinders Street Station is one of Melbourne’s most iconic buildings. Opened in 1854, it was once among the busiest railway stations in the world. It remains an important travel hub today, but that is the past.

Photographed at night, with the bare tree in the foreground and the moon behind it, the station becomes a ghost from another time.

This is not the view most people photograph. Search for images of Flinders Street Station and you will mostly see the front. I photographed the rear because I’m interested in seeing familiar things in less familiar ways.
