Things I Do

I license my images for publication and am open to travel anywhere in the world, except North Carolina, for assignments. I especially like overseas travel and long term assignments. I’m fond of South Asia and the developing world in general. Thanks to my prior life as a Foreign Service Officer, I have had training in survival in conflict or other high threat areas that prepare me for being in war zones, areas of terrorist activity, and civil disturbance. I’m willing to very carefully consider assignments of that nature.

I’m available as a speaker. In fact, I love public speaking, especially if it can be done in person. Public speaking is something I’ve been singled out as being high skilled in for my entire adult life. And I’m told my take on photography is unusual and my enthusiasm is contagious.

I write articles about various photography topics and other photography-adjacent areas.

I promote responsible behavior by photographers of all types, including by writing and speaking about related topics.

I lead photo walks and offer group instruction in cooperation with other businesses, non-profits, and other organizations.

I’m always happy to sit down informally to talk with and help other photographers. There is no fee to have me take some time to be a friendly, nice person that way.

I will consider donating services to non-profits that I support.

Things I Don’t Do

I do not offer one-on-one in-the-field lessons at this time. I recommend Alyce Bender for those services. She is a talented photographer, a passionate conservation advocate, and an all around nice person. She will help you learn to do it both skillfully and in the right way.

I do not photograph weddings, engagements, or most other events. Because of the injury discussed in my bio, my hands and wrists don’t withstand the workload involved in doing that. I tried. Sorry.

I do not enter competitions. Honestly, I just don’t feel competitive about photography. I get a lot of contest solicitations, but I’d much rather collaborate than compete.

Things I didn’t mention

If I didn’t mention it, then I probably haven’t thought much about it. Contact me and we’ll talk!
