I served in government during Trump’s first term. Ultimately, I suppose you could say I was an early victim of his hate for DEI. I became injured and disabled by my service as a State Department Foreign Service Officer. Trump’s administration added an extra level of cruelty to what what already a problematic way of handling reasonable accommodations for disability. Despite seven physicians warning that certain types of work would injure me even more than I already was, and despite my doctors and I reporting that I was actually getting hurt, they chose to keep doing things they knew were injuring me, leading to three surgeries, years worth of rehabilitation, and a disability expected to last the rest of my life. Luckily, it’s not obvious most of the time.
But what happened to me, and many others, was merely a prologue. Trump’s second term is far worse and on a far larger scale. My undergraduate degree is in history, and I truly believe Trump is an American version of Hitler. People are dying because of him. More will die. And he is damaging and will continue to damage the United States and the entire world.
So these are some of my letters to the Trump administration protesting their actions. They are all real. I actually did send them. And now I’m sharing them along with the policies they relate to. I hope they provide a bit of amusement during dark times as I mock his actions. I hope they encourage others to protest. And, most of all, I hope that they will make people who stand and fight Donald Trump feel a little less alone in standing up to him.
And, if you support Donald Trump, I hope these letters make you hate me. I’ve noticed that hating someone is the only thing that seems to make you people happy, and I want you to be happy too. Plus, what I’m doing here is exactly the sort of thing that makes dictators persecute artists. So I might as well earn my persecution.
